Old town

Split is one of the oldest cities in the area. Founded as the Greek colony of Aspálathos  about 2,400 years ago

Split’s historic Old Town includes Diocletian’s Palace and the medieval.

Old Town is quite stunning and busy (specially in the summer time). Here you will find most of the cities restaurants and shops (if you really want to go shopping, head for the shopping malls though).

The entire area is pedestrian only, including the seaside promenade. So if you come in car, be aware the parking can be a challenge.

Old town is easy to get lost in, and even though is seems small, you will always stumble in to small streets you hadn’t seen before.

Old town also holds the Diocletian’s Palace.

By the far end, next to the palace is the fruit and flower market + the “whatever weird items tourist buys” marked. Come early and see the locals on their shopping missions.
